Two Sail away with Gold Challenge

Friends Cat Paterson and Cheryl Boshi first met when they played hockey for their local club.  Cat was born and brought up in  Longniddry and when she and Cheryl heard about the Olympic Gold Challenge for charity, they decided to get involved and raise money for the cancer charity, Maggie’s Centre.

The Challenge is to take part in up to 30 Olympic and Paralympic sports in the year leading up the the 2012 London Olympics, completing the last of these sports by the start of the event.  In each sport, they must first undergo a minimum of 3-5 hours of training and have so far completed 20 different sports.

Over the Easter weekend, the friends  took instruction in shooting at Leuchars, archery at Fenton Barns, and sailing at North Berwick. They have also managed to fit into a busy schedule horse riding at Drem and mountain biking in Peebles.

East Lothian Yacht Club Bosun, Ted Hill and Vice Commodore, Donald Mackinnon were happy to give the girls a crash course in dinghy sailing before they both  took to the waters of the Forth.

So far, Cat and Cheryl have raised £3,000 for Maggie’s Centre, and taken on sports as diverse as boxing, fencing, rowing and weight lifting.
