RS 400 UK NATIONALS NOTICE BOARDEast Lothian Yacht Club has a long and happy history with the RS400 class, stretching back to 2001 when the Club hosted a Gul RS Circuit event for the first time. 21 years on, and having hosted a myriad of RS400 events since, the Club is looking forward to welcoming the RS400 fleet back to Scotland for their National Championships in 2022. ELYC is situated on the east coast of Scotland in North Berwick, an attractive and much loved seaside town near Edinburgh. An incredibly popular holiday destination, North Berwick is blessed with a variety of accommodation options ranging from nearby campsites to self catering apartments, guest houses and hotels. For those not sailing or on rest days, East Lothian has plenty of attractions to visit including a vast array of historical sites, nature walks, cycle routes and is also home to Scotland's famous "Golf Coast". Edinburgh is only 30 minutes away by train for those seeking a serious dose of culture. ELYC's reputation for hosting highly successful championships has been bolstered, even during these strange times. In the summer of 2019 we welcomed the RS Aero fleet who enjoyed themselves so much, that they booked ELYC as a venue for their 2024 Nationals before they'd even completed their week. As the nation struggled back to normality in the wake of the pandemic, like all sailing clubs across the country, ELYC tried to to its bit to help dinghy racing back onto the plane. The honour of hosting the Merlin Rockets in 2021, with newly crowned Olympic gold medallist Stu Bithell competing, was ours. They too must have enjoyed their week because guess what? They are looking to return to ELYC in 2026. For major events such as the RS400 UK Nationals, a convenient dinghy park is setup on the Elcho Green. This provides easy access to the launch area on the sandy beach of the west bay, which is just a short & pleasant walk from the ELYC clubhouse.
The race area to the east typically provides steady breeze and some great waves that make for truly exciting sailing, all under the watchful gaze of The Bass Rock which provides an enviable backdrop. © Endorphin Projects Ltd If you're sailing well, it's not unusual for schools of Dolphins to surface alongside to applaud your efforts. However, it is unlikely they will offer you a tow. © Karen Munro The Principal Race Officer also has the option of setting up courses to the west of the harbour, which provides an equally picturesque arena in which to sail, between two other well known local landmarks, The Lamb and Craigleith. © Braid Image
