East Lothian Yacht Club has 12 toppers and 4 2000s that are available for club members to hire for Wednesday and Saturday club racing. You must have RYA Level/Stage 2 or equivalent to take a club boat out, or approval from the training principal or deputy training officer (Ben Wilcox or Laura Rowlinson). If we are not around then please ask the OOD.
The club asks for a £5 hire fee for a topper and £10 for a 2000 (double hander) that will go towards maintaining the boats, which must be paid in cash before you go sailing. We ask that this is put in the marked envelopes which can be found on the back of the clubhouse door and place in the boat hire box. If you can’t find them please ask the OOD.
Depending on the activity and session you may need to book a boat online before turning up. Otherwise the boats are handed out on a first come first served basis. The table below shows what to expect:
Activity | How to Book |
Go Racing | First come first served |
Friday Sailing | Boats must be booked beforehand using the events that can be found on the Friday Sailing page |
Club Racing | First come first served |
Social Sailing | Normally first come first served, although there may be some special sessions like the Family Sailing where we ask members to book in advance - see the Social Sailing page |
Please note:
Mast head floats must be used when taking a 2000 out.
The jib must always be put away after sailing a 2000 and the forestay reattached.
