ELYC Retain the Elie & Earlsferry Passage Race Trophy

The annual Elie & Earlsferry Passage Race took place on 02/09/2018.

This race involves keelboat fleets from East Lothian Yacht Club Elie and Earlsferry Sailing Club starting from their respective start lines, racing across the Forth to the "oppositions" club house, enjoying some hospitality, then racing back home again.

This reporter has never taken part in this event but always imagined water balloon broadsides as the fleets passed each other in the middle of the river. I very much doubt this is the case.

Fastest crossing on handicap is awarded to an Elie boat 'Monopoly' who achieved the return crossing from NB to Elie in 1:25:54 and a corrected time of 1:19:37. Our fastest crossing on corrected time was Dream Weaver also on 2nd leg.

3 Elie boats completed the 2nd leg in under an hour and a half.

ELYC won the event overall!

As many of you will have noticed, our clubhouse roof is leaking, with tubs in the café and buckets in the attic, it’s clear that it now needs to be replaced to protect our much-loved clubhouse for the future.

The good news is that work is underway. Planning permission has been granted, and the project is expected to cost around £50,000. We’ve already secured a £5,000 grant from the North Berwick Trust, are applying for more funding, and will carefully use club reserves while keeping the club financially secure.

Fundraising will play an important part, and we’re keen to make this a fun and engaging process for everyone. Our target for this year, 2026, is £5,000. There are lots of ways to get involved
