ELYC Instructor Training Programme 2017

There is always a need for RYA qualified volunteers to run the training activities, and to that end we try to run or access training courses for interested individuals.

If you are interested in becoming an instructor or progressing up the line please email trainingprincipal@elyc.org.uk or chiefinstructor@elyc.org.uk

Assistant Instructor

Currently we have no dates for Assistant Instructor training - if you are interested in completing this please contact us.

The assistant instructor (AI) award provides recognition for the 'in-house' training given to experienced sailors intending to qualify as RYA dinghy, keelboat or multihull instructors.

The AI is a competent small boat sailor who has been trained to assist instructors in teaching sailing up to the standard of the Level 2 or Stage 3 courses. They must work under the supervision of an RYA senior instructor (SI) or the chief instructor of a keelboat training centre.

As the AI's training is limited to assisting qualified instructors and does not include first aid or powerboat handling, AIs must never be allowed to work without direct supervision.

Dinghy Instructors

Dinghy Instructors are trained to deliver the Learn to Sail and Improver courses under supervision of a Senior Instructor. We are running a Dinghy Instructor course early 2017 - please contact us on the above email address to register interest.

A Dinghy Instructor is a competent, experienced sailor capable of sailing a training boat in strong winds and handling small powerboats. To qualify as an Dinghy Instructor you must a minimum of 16 years old, have completed a Powerboat Level 2 certificate, First Aid and Safe and Fun Safeguarding certificate. You must also have completed a pre-entry sailing assessment to demonstrate good dinghy sailing competence.

Senior Instructors

All RYA courses will have a Senior Instructor on duty to supervise the running of the course.
